The Youth Council recruits new members once a year. Read below to learn more!

Nomination Requirements

  • Between the ages of 12-24 when applying.
  • Live within Frederick County.
  • Must be able to participate in, at least, one monthly Youth Council meeting (on the 3rd Tuesday of every month)
  • Commit to a two-year term on the Youth Council starting the August after applications are submitted

  • Meeting like-minded, community-oriented youth to spark positive change in Frederick County.
  • Pursuit of the passions of youth in the community whether that be legislative policy, beautifying parks, educational opportunities, or volunteerism.
  • Professional development through enhancing communication, leadership, collaboration, and advocacy skills.
  • Opportunity to influence the creation and design of the Downtown Youth Hub building.
  • Stipend payment to compensate youth for their participation.

Nomination and application process: what to expect

Nominations open late spring every year for the Youth Council. Anyone can nominate a youth including parents, teachers, guardians, mentors, coaches, peers, and youth can self nominate. Multiple nominations do not impact the likelihood of a youth being seated on the Council – please only nominate a person once. You can, however, submit multiple nominations for different youth. 

Following the submission of the nomination form, the youth nominee, yourself, and their guardian will receive an email asking them to complete an application before being scheduled for an interview.

Youth MUST submit an application to be scheduled for an interview. 

Applications open Monday, June 1, and close Sunday, June 21, at 11:50 pm.
